Tinker Hatfield is the Vice President of Innovation at Nike. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelors degree in architecture and went to work for Nike in 1981 designing offices, apparel showrooms, and Nike retail outlets. In 1985 he began his career as a product designer when he designed the Nike Air Max 1 and revolutionized he athletic shoe and apparel industry forever. He then worked with Michael Jordan and created some of the best looking and best performing basketball shoes the world has ever seen. Although he is not a graphic designer, his processor design and outlook can be universally applied to any field. He observed and tried many ideas before coming to a conclusion that fulfilled the needs of the product he was designing. Tinker is also an advocate for traveling, broadening experiences, making real connections, and understanding needs and wants, which all eventually find their way into good design.
